The town of Redding has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1767. Once a “busy and populous farm settlement, according to the town's website, the antique farmhouse at 46 Dayton Road is a remnant of the town's farm-oriented history.

Listed for 1.395 million dollars, the four-floor property was built in 1780 and features five bedrooms, three full bathrooms and one partial bathroom spread over 3,728 square feet of space. It's also furnished with wide-board floors and "hand-hewn exposed beams."

The first floor has one bedroom and a renovated kitchen, which has been updated with an island and a peninsula, as well as a fireplace and a dining area. Previous owner Nils Bruzelius said in an email that the second floor has three bedroom plus the bedroom in the attic. There are five fireplaces in the house, one of which is located in a library on the first floor.

The lower level contains a guest suite, which offers access to the pool, which has been resurfaced and has a new fence. Across the lawn is a "detached carriage house" with a 482-square-foot guest cottage and a full bathroom. There is also a barn with a "standing seam metal roof," according to the listing.

Other renovations include the addition of a whole house generator, a solar heating system, a new boiler and a hardwood deck.

Outside on the home’s 5.72 acre lot, there are gardens that Bruzelius said used to be home to a crabapple orchard that was harvested and pressed into cider by the cider press in the farmhouse’s basement. The Dayton family — the road’s namesake — owned the house for 200 years before selling it to Bruzelius' parents, he said.
